Unisys would reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero within eight years

The company reached its 2006 goal, the 75% reduction in emissions, five years earlier than planned.

The world-renowned information technology provider Unisys – which has been one of the best-known players in the Hungarian IT market for more than fifteen years – has set itself an ambitious goal: by 2030, it will reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to net zero in terms of both direct emissions and indirect emissions related to purchased energy. The commitment is in line with the Business Ambition for 1.5° C commitment launched by the Science Based Targets movement, in the framework of which the world’s leading companies committed themselves to the goal of keeping the global temperature increase within 1.5°C. Unysis’ current commitment also builds on the company’s participation in the Carbon Disclosure Project and the UN Global Compact (UNGC).Globally, Unisys plans to reduce its net greenhouse gas emissions to zero with the following steps:

  • develops and implements solutions that reduce the carbon footprint of the company and its customers;
  • optimizes the footprint of your properties
  • increases energy efficiency;
  • renewable energy buys;
  • mitigates its remaining emissions by purchasing renewable emission allowances (RECs) and carbon dioxide compensation.

The announcement is another milestone for the company in achieving zero emissions. Back in 2006, Unisys set the goal of reducing its carbon dioxide emissions by 75% by 2026. The company achieved this goal five years earlier, in 2021, exceeding the commitment by by 10%. “Unisys has long been committed to environmental protection and sustainable local and global communities. We take environmental and social aspects into account when creating our business strategy and making decisions,” said Peter Altabef, Unisys President and CEO. “We are proud to have reached our 2026 target five years early and adopted a comprehensive action plan to reach zero emissions by 2030.” Unisys Hungary’s service center offers more and more diverse services through its continuous development. The Hungarian center continues to develop dynamically, there is continuous interest from new, potential large-company clients in relation to new services. Unisys offers challenging, responsible positions from entry-level positions to management levels, including customer relations and IT.
